Who can volunteer at ECC?

Anyone aged 18 or over with a passion for helping others is welcome! You don’t need teaching experience—just an open mind, a kind heart, and a willingness to get involved.

What kind of work will I be doing?

You’ll mainly be teaching English for 2 - 4 hours each day and planning lessons! You can also help with administration, construction, fundraising, or social media, too! Wherever your skills and interests lie, we will find a role that supports our mission.

Do I need to speak any Khmer or Thai ?

Not at all. English is the language used in the classroom, and the kids are eager to learn from you! It is good to learn simple phrases like Hello or Thank you to interact with the locals, but we expect you to not know these languages. We also provide support and guidance so you feel comfortable from day one.

Is accommodation and food provided?

Yes! Volunteers stay in a safe, clean shared house with the other volunteers. We also offer rooms for couples! We offer three delicious meals a day—so you can focus on teaching, not grocery shopping.

What is the minimum time I can volunteer?

The minimum stay is two weeks, and many volunteers choose to stay longer. The more time you give, the deeper your impact—and the stronger your connection with the kids.

What if I've never taught before?

You don’t need any teaching experience – just a kind heart, a willingness to help, and the desire to share what you know. Whether you’re just curious or dreaming of becoming a teacher, this is your chance to step into a classroom and create real impact.

Is it safe to volunteer in Cambodia or Thailand?

Yes, Cambodia and Thailand are generally very safe, especially in Siem Reap and Sisaket. We ensure volunteers stay in safe accommodation, and our local team is always available for support. As with any travel, staying aware and respectful of local customs goes a long way.

What should I wear at the school and temple grounds?

When volunteering at ECC Thailand and visiting the temple grounds, it's important to dress modestly and respectfully. Both the school and temple require that shoulders and knees are covered at all times, and revealing or disrespectful clothing such as shorts and tank tops should be avoided. Women must not touch monks—this includes any physical contact like handshakes. Additionally, always remove your shoes before entering temples or certain areas of the school, and wear clean, appropriate footwear like flip-flops or sandals.
